Christmas Eve has a way of slowing us down. Even in the middle of busy schedules, wrapped gifts, and last-minute details, there’s a quiet feeling that settles in — a sense of warmth, reflection, and meaning. It’s the kind of night that gently reminds us what really matters.
This season, I was reminded of that spirit while spending time with my dear friend Jennifer Yorgesen of Yor Christmas Magic. For many years, Jennifer has poured her heart into raising funds and rallying community support for families in need — doing so generously and with so much love.
Being part of that mission this year was a meaningful reminder of what this season is really about.
When Home Looks Different
We had the privilege of helping a family who has endured more than most. After a tragic fire and the heartbreaking loss of their daughter in a sudden accident, “home” looks very different for them this Christmas.
It isn’t wrapped in lights or familiar traditions.
But they are together.
They are sheltered.
And healing has begun.
Watching them navigate this season with resilience and grace reminded me of something simple, yet profound.
Home Is More Than a Place
Home isn’t just a structure.
It’s a feeling.
It’s safety.
It’s belonging.
It’s the space where love lives — and where hope can quietly take root, even when life feels uncertain.
In my work, I help people move into homes every day. Some are celebrating milestones. Some are starting over. Some are simply searching for stability after hardship.
And what I’ve learned is this:
Home is what we choose to make it.
The Choice We Get to Make
President Russell M. Nelson once taught that our happiness depends on the focus of our lives, not the circumstances. I’ve seen that truth play out again and again — in families, in business, and in moments like this.
We can’t always choose our circumstances.
But we can choose our focus.
We can choose gratitude over comparison.
Connection over chaos.
Presence over perfection.
Light over darkness.
And we can choose to carry the spirit of this season — kindness, generosity, and peace — far beyond one day on the calendar.
