Why "You're Clear to Close" Is About So Much More Than a Mortgage
There are a lot of phone calls I make every week.
Some are quick.
Some require problem-solving.
Some involve explaining guidelines, reviewing documents, or answering questions.
But there is one phone call that never gets old.
One call that still makes me smile after nearly four decades in this business.
It usually starts with four simple words ... "You're clear to close!"
And no matter how many times I've made that call over the years, the reaction is never quite the same.
Sometimes there's silence. Sometimes there's laughter. Sometimes there are tears. Sometimes I hear kids cheering in the background.
Sometimes all I hear is ... "Really? We did it?" “Thank you!” “We’re so excited!”
Those moments never get old.
Because while "Clear to Close" may sound like mortgage terminology...
To me, it's one of the happiest milestones in someone's life.
It's Never Just About the Loan
Most people think "Clear to Close" simply means the paperwork is finished.
The underwriting is complete. The lender has signed off. Closing day is scheduled.
And while all of that is true ... that's not what I think about when I make that call.
I think about what comes next. I picture a family pulling into the driveway for the very first time. I picture kids racing to choose their bedrooms. I picture moving boxes stacked in every room. Pizza on the floor because the table hasn't arrived yet.
The first meal.
The first holiday.
The first backyard barbecue.
The first Christmas tree.
The first birthday celebration.
The first time someone quietly sits on the back patio and thinks...
"We're finally home."
Those are the moments that matter.
Behind Every Loan Is a Story
After nearly 40 years in the mortgage business, I've learned something.
Every file has numbers.
Every loan has guidelines.
Every transaction has deadlines.
But behind every mortgage ... is a story.
Sometimes it's a young couple buying their very first home. Sometimes it's a growing family needing more space. Sometimes it's empty nesters beginning a new chapter. Sometimes it's grandparents moving closer to the people they love most. Sometimes it's someone who never believed homeownership would be possible until they heard the words ...
"You're approved."
Then...
"You're clear to close."
Those aren't just milestones. They're life-changing moments!
It Takes a Village
That phone call may come from me...
But it never happens because of just one person.
Behind every successful closing is an incredible team. Dedicated Realtors. Thoughtful loan officers. Processors. Underwriters. Closers. Title companies. Appraisers. Insurance agents. Family members cheering from the sidelines.
Everyone working toward one shared goal...
Helping someone get home.
That's one of the things I love most about this business.
People coming together to make someone else's dream possible.
The Call I Never Take for Granted
People sometimes ask me if I ever get tired of doing mortgages after all these years.
The answer is easy.
No.
Because I still get to make that phone call.
The one where relief replaces worry.
The one where uncertainty becomes excitement.
The one where months of planning finally become reality.
I don't think I'll ever stop loving that moment.
Because while we celebrate a loan closing ...
What we're really celebrating is a new beginning.

Final Thought
One of my favorite signs says: "Hey, guess who is CLEAR TO CLOSE?"
It always makes me smile.
Not because of the loan ... but because I know what those four words really mean.
They mean someone is about to unlock a front door they've been dreaming about. They mean another family is about to begin a brand-new chapter. And they remind me why I still love what I do after all these years.
